Great info about researching candidates. Sadly you are lumping and labeling anyone who donates to conservatives through WinRed as a MAGA extremist. Someone who is not a Democrat likely would never contribute to ActBlu; your commentary vilifies any candidate who contributes to any conservative because of Trump. Maybe it's time to let go of Trumpifying all conservatives.

Respect your comments but couldn't disagree with you more on this point. WinRed was specifically created by the Trump/MAGA wing of the Republican Party (which for all intent purposes is the party) and continues to be the main fundraising platform for Trump/MAGA candidates. Those who donated through it, including after the 2020 election was called and Trump and his supporters pushed the Big Lie, were fully invested in MAGA politics, and that's what ultimately led to the catastrophe of the Jan. 6 insurrections. I certainly don't believe that liberal policies are always right and conservative policies are always wrong, but this is about a basic respect for truth, decency and the principles of democracy. I personally don't believe that anyone who gave to WinRed (especially after the Big Lie took root and a mob attacked the Capitol) reflects our community's values and should hold elective office in Martinez (especially on the school board, when the whole point of education is to teach kids how to think critically, discern truth from lies and be good citizens who respect our constitutional freedoms and treat others with respect). People can agree or disagree with the politics of people who donate to ActBlue, but at least that political party has shown that it respects democracy and our basic system of governance. In my opinion. the Republican Party lost all credibility on that score when it decided to embrace Trumpism rather than purge it. If George Wallace had taken over the Democratic Party in 1968, Democrats would have had the same reckoning and choices to make; fortunately for them and the country, they chose a different course.

After watching you address the School Board at their 10/10 meeting on YouTube it seems it would be impossible for you to give any unbiased information on any candidate. You might need to practice more mindfulness and look at your own biases to anyone who isn't a progressive Democrat like you. I'm sorry now that I shared your newsletter, you're no better than CNN apparently.

Ha! You got me there. Glad you took the time to watch my comments. Hope others do as well.

Not even going to pretend that there's anything to be unbiased about when it comes to democracy. I feel sorry for those who value relationships over fulfilling their own responsibilities to defend our democracy for which so many Americans gave their lives over the years. Those who think there are two sides to MAGA and its assault on democracy and the truth and attempts to overthrow our government on Jan. 6 have sadly lost their way, IMHO, or just don't care about our country. The reason I believe democracy itself is on the precipice in America today is not that there are too many MAGAs; there are too many people too weak to say and do the right thing.

The Martinez Education Association and anyone else endorsing a MAGA supporter for school board should be ashamed of themselves. They truly don't understand the difference between respecting differing political viewpoints (though the union would never endorse someone who didn't full support its agenda) and showing a basic respect for democracy, decency and truth.

And btw, I very rarely watch CNN.

Also, I tried to use the app you linked and it did not lead to where I could see council candidates' contributions. NEVERMIND, FIGURED IT OUT.

Some of us are centrists and believe a little from both sides and from the Independent and Green parties.

Those who have known me long enough know that I've been super liberal on some issues (mainly around social justice), centrist on others (like where to put pot dispensaries) and even a bit conservative at times in clashing with teachers union politics (though I have the utmost respect for all committed, caring teachers, who I see as heroes) and fiscal responsibility/government accountability. I believe in looking at every issue on its merits, learning as many facts as a I can, and coming to the best conclusion I can based on what I believe to be just, fair and right, regardless of whose agenda it aids or hurts. And if new information or arguments come to light that I think are persuasive, I am open to changing my mind.
