Thank you for your interesting, well-written work on the election. The high turn-out is encouraging. I was hoping the four district candidates would speak to specific issues of their district. Ben was the only one who did, saying that District 4 resident’s dollars are spent elsewhere. The pitches seemed directed to an at-large electorate. Thanks again for this service to Martinez and others who love her.
Well written. Especially regarding Mark Ross and Mike Menesini taking votes away from Lara DeLaney. Makes perfect sense. Very glad Brianne Zorn triumphed and looking forward to a bright future.
Thank you for your timely information and encouragement to do our own investigating. I know I have been complacent in the past but hopefully learned my lesson.
Thank you Craig for these posts. I found them full of helpful information to guide me in making my choice and I am personally thrilled to have Brianne as our next mayor. She ran an optimistic campaign with actual plans...not just hyperbole. I look forward to your future newsletters.
I really appreciated your election analysis as there is so little Martinez coverage in the local Bay area news. Your newsletter was extremely helpful to me as I made my voting decisions.
Sean Trambley criticized this city’s leadership, and he ran a very close race with the winner Zorn because his constituents also criticized this city’s leadership. Just goes to show how many people are sick and tired of the status quo.
Really appreciate your efforts. Next up ... who's jockeying for appointment to Brianne's vacated seat? There's a definite need for ongoing coverage of City Hall. I tried supporting BCN ... they sent out Tony Hicks and did a great article on the Sturgeon (I know that's not your thing, but it was a great article). But their election coverage was worse than worthless. If you have ideas for keeping this going ... I'd love to hear how I can support those efforts.
Sounds nice, but costs money; leaves an even number of votes on the Council (Mayor + 3 Council members) for a couple of months while filing papers/campaigning/election process takes place; not the way it was done in the past (Janet Kennedy 2002 when Mayor Rob was elected). I do hope there is at least some chance for public feedback, but I think the Council will most likely appoint someone.
Mark Ross still has 2 years left on his term, but will lose the seat in 2024 because he doesn't live in District 2. Brianne's District 3 seat will be vacated when she becomes Mayor and a replacement will be chosen from within the boundaries of the new District 3 boundaries. Googling around, it appears that Anamarie Avila Farias lives, or at least owns a house in District 3. Personally, I don't feel she should even be considered based on her recruitment of a Southern California lawyer to sue the City, but she's apparently still a political player in this town.
Both Ross and Zorn live in district 1. The districts they were elected from no longer exist as new districts were formed. Farias appears to live in district 4. Don’t under stand why that matters.
Ross is grandfathered in to District 2 (even though he doesn't live there) until his term expires. He lives in the District 2 at the time he was elected. When his term is over, the person who replaces him will have to live in the new District 2. Zorn would have been able to serve out her District 3 term also, had she not won the Mayor's race. But going forward, whoever replaces Zorn will have to live within the new District 3 boundaries. The address I saw for Farias is east of Morello ... District 3, but you can't always rely on Google ... you may know better.

What about the purchase of opener-space in district 4. Most of city spending is city wide. It is a good sound bite
Please describe what opener-space is. Thanks
Open space Alhambra Hills

How about an election.

Not very democratic not to let public to decide.
But the applicants should only come from the last two NEW districts that have not yet filled council seats. That would be 2 and 3.
