In this opening podcast segment, Zorn discusses how she prevailed over five other candidates in November to become Martinez's first new mayor in 20 years
While I do think ranked choice voting would make sense in Martinez, you should be aware that it's ILLEGAL in General Law cities under California State Law. All the cities that currently have it are Charter cities. SB212, which would have allowed rank choice voting in general law cities passed both the California Assembly and Senate but was VETOED by Governor Newsom in 2019.
Thanks for pointing that out, Tino. I wasn't aware of the background on ranked choice voting as it applies to general law cities. I'll definitely point this out in future posts related to the topic.
Really enjoyed your first podcast Craig. Can’t wait to hear the rest. It’s good to hear from our new Mayor.
Thank you, Laura!
