How to stay safe from the heat in Martinez
During the early July National Weather Service’s excessive heat advisory, citizens should avoid heavy activity and direct sunlight as well as stay hydrated, find a cool indoor place, and check on children, elderly and pets.
The following locations and their hours will be open as cooling centers in the Martinez area during this week’s heat wave

Date/Times: Wednesday, July 3, noon to 7 p.m.
Thursday, July 4, noon to 7p.m.
Friday, July 5, noon to 7 p.m.
Saturday, closed, please utilize library cooling center
Sunday, July 7, noon to 7 p.m.
July 3 Update: The city is now allowing pets in the cooling center as long as they are leashed and well-behaved.

During excessive heat:
Find air conditioning
Avoid strenuous activities
Wear light clothing
Check on family members and neighbors
Drink plenty of water
Watch for heat cramps — exhaustion — stroke.
Never leave people or pets in a car.
